About the Wichita Chamber Chorale
Kansas Choral Composition Prize
The only program of its kind in the state of Kansas, this initiative was founded by the Wichita Chamber Chorale and is co-sponsored by Senseney Music, Inc. The Kansas Choral Composition Prize (KCCP) fosters original choral music of the highest quality, with the intention of giving the winner(s) a high-profile performance of their work by the Wichita Chamber Chorale, in addition to a monetary prize of $1,000. Music scores are submitted anonymously to a panel of judges and Kansas-born composer, Kirke Mechem, is the honorary advisor. Applicants must show clear and verifiable ties to Kansas by being a native Kansan, current resident of Kansas, or by being a student studying at a Kansas educational institution.
With the cancellation of the 2020 Competition, the third Kansas Choral Composition Competition is being planned for Fall 2021, with a performance of the winning composition in the Spring 2022.
Previous winners were Dr. Geoffrey Wilcken in 2015 and Lyle Stutzman in 2018.
